Does Anesthesia Cause Rise In Blood Sugar Level?

I am having ankle ligament repair surgery next week. I have a-fib, 37 years old, and I am scared of gereal anasthesia. Should I be? I had it one, and could not urinate for 5 days, and had a big rise in blood pressure. (I'm a Ph.D. chemist, so you don't have to dmb things down for me...:) ) Thanks.
