Does Antibiotics Cause Extreme Redness On The Face, Neck, Chest And Legs?

I was diagnosed with strep (positive swab) and prescribed amoxicillin 500 2xday. Throat starting closing up, dehydrated and pus pockets from me side touching the other, so went to ER the next day. They gave me IV steroids, clyndamycyn(?) and fluids. Ran fever of 102 up until today at 3 and back to normal. ER told me to continue taking the amoxicillin and if in 24 hours I wasn t significantly better, to come back as it could be an abscessed tonsil and they would do a CT. Well, I took the second dose of amoxicillin about an hour ago and I have turned beat red on face, neck, chest, and legs. Is this due to the two different antibiotics clashing or ? Suggestions.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you had an allergic reaction to the antibioticAmoxicillin given to you leading to itchy rashes and urticaria or itching..
It is one of the common presentation of allergy to antibiotic that leads to rashes and itching..
But in case if the symptoms have exaggerated even after taking Clindamycin then there is a possibility that you are allergic to it too..
Many a times when the reaction is severe it cannot resolve immediately after taking anti allergics and needs a longer course of anti allergics as well as at times oral steroids can also be given..
You should also immediately stop taking the antibiotic Clindamycin and consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can give you injectable steroid to relieve the symptoms faster..
You can also be advised to apply steroid ointment over the rashes..
Doing cool compresses and applying Calamine lotion can also help..

You can be advised allergic tests by which they can rule out which antibiotics will be safer for you and prescribe you the same so that the infection can be controlled..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
