Does Appendicitis Have To Be Treated With Surgery?

My 20 yr. old son showed all of the signs & the doctor confirmed he had apendicitis & needed surgery. They kept him overnight until the surgeon arrived today. He had a third scan & later this afternoon, they said he was ok & released him! I m concerned. Do we need a 2nd opinion?
