Does Arthritis Cause Easy Bruising And Swelling On The Feet?

I went and worked out and ended up with a bruised and swollen foot near the little toe. The xray shows I have arthritis. Does that cause this bruising? We thought i may have a small fracture but the xray doesn t show any. This is my first news of any arthritis.

Hi,

Mild cases of arthritis can sometimes be asymptomatic (have no symptoms), this would be reason you may not have noticed any problems. The x ray would have shown up any fractures so if none were seen then you do not need to worry about this possibility. Bruising can occur due to damage to small blood vessels under the skin, this is called a contusion.

It would normally clear up in 7 to 10 days. In some cases, it can take up to 2 weeks.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
