Does Beta Blockers Cause Leg Aches And Cramps? Can I Switch To A Channel Blocker?

Recently suffered A-fib and am on a beta blocker. I am a healthy 81 year old female with normally good pressure without medications. I am getting leg aches and cramps every night and wonder if this is a result of the beta blockers.
would switching to a channel blocker avoid this problem.

Dear!

Welcome to HCM!

This is Dr.Suleman. Resident in Cardiology in Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre.

Yes dear one of the side effect of beta-blocker is leg cramps.

Well at your age Atrial Fibrillation is highly associated with heart failure. and calcium channel blocker is contraindicated (strictly prohibited) in heart failure patients. so make sure by asking your cardiologist (or familiy physician) what is the cause of Atrial Fibrillation.

Digoxin ( a drug name) is a very effective drug in heart failure patient for the control of Atrial Fibrillation. You can ask your physician to choose Digoxin for you. One thing to remember there is no need of any medication in Atrial fibrillation if your heart rate is less than 100. research showes that only Atrial fibrillation with more than 100 heart rate should be treated.

So in a nutshell if you don't have heart failure and your atrial fibrillation is due to another cause. then you can go for calcium channel blocker but in case of heart failure you have another good drug by the name Digoxin.

Hope this is answer to your question.
