Does Biotin Supplement Affect A Thyroid Function Test Report?

Hi, I was wondering if taking biotin will affect my thyroid test and/or my blood calcium level test. I take about 300 mcg in my multi and another 300 mcg in my b complex supplemnt. The calcium test is most important as I have been diagnosed w/ parathyroid tumor and am awaiting surgery.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I really appreciate your awareness regarding biotin.your guess is very much true.parathyroid, thyroid, troponin levels in blood.so,the healthcare professional and the laboratory personnel are to be informed about biotin intake.to my patients, I advise to discontinue biotin supplements at least for 1 week prior to testing.so, just let your treating physician know about it.once again I admire your presence of mind.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
