Does Breathing Harmful Gases Harm The Baby During Pregnancy?
I just experienced something unusual. I was about to get off the bus to go home, when suddenly a group of people started coughing at the same exact time. It didn't seem like anything serious until i couldn't smell anything. I held my breath so i wouldn't inhale whatever was in the air. Halfway off of my bus, everybody started coughing, and i couldn't breathe so i inhaled quickly and held my breath again. Everybody started to run to get off the bus, and by the time i got off the bus, i was coughing. I now (45 minutes later) have a sore throat and it hurts when i swallow anything on the left side of my throat. Please help! I am pregnant and i don't want anything to happen to my 23 week year old baby boy.
Our environment is full of gases and we are surrounded by chemicals so accidental exposures potentially occur in every woman. These are unavoidable and a part of our lives so do not worry.
The baby is already 23 weeks. All the organs are developed by now and after this only the size of the baby increases. So the chances of having a congenital anomaly due to this gas exposure are very low.
You must see your doctor and get treated for the sore throat as infections of any sort are not good during pregnancy, so just get it treated.
Do not worry and wish you a safe pregnancy and delivery. Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
