Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Carotid Occlusion Cause Coronary Vein Occlusion?
My carotids were only occluded 10-12%. My question is, since the blood system is a closed system, can i assume that my cardiac veins are similarly occluded only 10-12%? Or is there no correlation between the two since the volume of blood surging through the much larger carotids is so much greater than the volume of blood flowing through the cardiac veins (and hence, presumably, it is harder for plaque to attach to the carotid walls than it is to attach to the narrower cardiac walls)? Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Carotid artery occlusion would certainly affect blood supply to vital organs, especially brain and heart. But it is not the same percentage of occlusion as it is in carotid artery. Decrease in blood supply relies more on the occlusion of local blood vessels of heart involved in coronary circulation rather than occlusion elsewhere. Kindly get a Doppler study done to know the status of your coronary blood vessels and blood supply to the heart. You can consult Cardiologist for evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query.
