Does Chemotherapy Cause Diabetes?

I had lymphoma b-cell in 2009 and had a bone marrow transplant in 2010 using my own stem cells and on 2012 the Doctors said I must have diabetes because glucose was high and I still show 7.0 A1C. Did the extreme chemo cause the diabetes? No history of it in my family

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Chemotherapy and steroids used in patients with cancer may cause an increase in sugar levels which may be the cause of your high sugar levels as well. It is important that you regularly monitor your blood sugar and if the level stays high you need to take proper treatment to have it under control.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
