Does Consumption Of Skoal Spit By A Toddler Calls For Medical Attention?
My 2 year old drank skoal spit from his older brothers bottle and I couldn t get to him quick enough to stop him but immediately made him throw up! The vomit was a lot and looked like most of it came out. I forced him water and continued to make him vomit. About an hour later he seemed lethargic and glossy eyed and fell asleep. Poison control said to keep an eye out for changes in behavior. He vomited twice more...clear with a yellow tinge and then fell asleep. Now it s been almost 3hours and I woke him up...gave him a bath and he seems back to his normal self. Should I still take him to the ER? Or what other signs should I watch for?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
First of all no need to worry much because he is behaving normal now. Give him 12 hours more. He will be absolutely normal. So no need to rush to emergency room. You should watch for extreme behaviour changes like agitation, crying, excessive sleepiness, lethargy, etc. If all these are absent and he is doing well in next 12 hours, no need to panic. Keep him hydrated, give him normal food. Don't worry, he will be alright.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar
