Does Continuous Use Of Listerine Mouth Spray Cause Dry Cough?
Because my work involves interacting with people, I use Listerine mouth spray, especially after having coffee. Sometimes I catch myself giving myself a spray whether or not I really need it, perhaps 2-3 times an hour. Sometimes only a few sprays all day, sometimes more. I've used the spray for a couple of years. I've had a dry cough for five months. Sometimes it triggers my gag reflex. I can feel the cough coming on because there's a little tickle like a feather in the back of my throat. A few sips of water clears up the cough but only to return after another hour or so. The cough occurs at home as well off and on. A chest xray came out normal. Is the Listerine spray causing me to have a dry mouth/throat and causing me to cough? I'm 60, female, and healthy.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain in case if you spray listerine spray daily that too many a times a day and you are doing it since ears and along with it as your chest x-ray has come out to be normal the most common cause of dry mouth and throat along with dry cough can be due to Listerine as it has a tendency to cause drying effect of the mucosal surfaces and due to drying there is irritation in throat leading to initiation of cough You should stop spraying Listerine and if you want to create a fresh breathe you can chew sugar free chewing gum as it will help in stimulating saliva flow, reducing dryness and also will prevent cough formation.. You can chew the chewing gum many times a day.. Drink plenty of water and do warm saline gargles..
Hope this information helps..
