Does Daily Intake Of Xanax With Alcohol Has Side Effects?

My girlfriend has a problem with anxiety and lack of sleep. She takes xanax (bars) nightly coupled with moderate amounts of alcohol. My question is ....even though xanax is supposed to be for relaxation do you think the nightly use coupled with the alcohol is actually producing a counter effect?
