Does Defcort Help In Clearing Chest Congestion?

Hi, I have chest congestion, running nose and had fever. now the fever is gone but the congestion is still there, when I cough, there is a very typical sound, like when it is heavyly congested. First the Doc put me on ceftum 500, four days back, plus today he has prescribed defcort 6 (2 tabs twice a day) for 3 days, says will clear my congestion, and to continue ceftum till I finish 6 days. Is defcort required? Am a little vary of steroids.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Noted here you can have bronchitis.

You have given the antibiotic. You have also prescribed a steroid. It can be taken for a short time. Usually, first antihistaminic can be tried like Benadryl. Anyhow short-term use of Defecort will not lead a major side effect.
Steam inhalation is to be taken. If dyspnea occurs, bronchodilator can be given.
