Does Delayed Periods While Having PCOS Suggest Pregnancy?
I have PCOS and I didnt have irregualr periods but I have very heavy and painful periods. My Dr. put me on metformin in August 2014 to help with my flow and cramping, I have been taking it for well over a month and now this month I am 8 days late with no signs of my period. my boyfriend and I are trying to concieve, so I am wondering is the missed period due to the meformin or preganancy? All Pregnancy tests I have taken have come back negative, so I would really like to know what is going on and what I need to do.
I can understand your concern. PCOS is usually treated with hormone pills but they also act as contraceptive pills making pregnancy impossible. As you are trying to concieve, the docotr has prescribed you Metformin, which is also effective in treating PCOS. However, it may require more time to make your menstrual cycles regular and one month may not be enough.
So in your case, neither pregnancy nor metformin, but PCOS is causing delayed/irregular menstruations. If you do not get periods in next 5 days, you should consult your gynecologist as dose adjustment of Metformin may be required.
I hope this answers your query. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.
