Does Ear Infection Cause Rolling Eyes In A Child?

My Grandson (5 1/2) suddenly is rolling his eyes back. He was diagnosed with swimmers ear and with an ear infection 2 weeks ago. That s about how long he has been rolling his eye. 2 weeks ago they spent the weekend swimming all day at the city pool, and the neighbors pool. Could this be related to maybe an infection in the eyes from being in chlorine water too much?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your son is diagnosed with swimmer's ear & is having infection in the ear he is suggested to avoid swimming for a couple of days till he gets treated.

Get him clinically examined by an ENT. He may have AOM/CSOM or wax infection. He may need antibiotics, anti-inflammatory & rest.

Rolling in the eyes may be due to the discomfort in the ear or inflammation. If required he will be referred to the Eye specialist by the ENT.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
