General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion this might be related to gastroesophageal reflux. This is a very common health problem, more in people who drink alcohol, and is generally accompained by cough.

Gatroesophageal reflux, consist on acidic stomach contents that backs up(reflux) into the esophagus.

I suggest him to:

-Take Omeprazol twice daily(30 minutes before breakfast , and before sleeping) for three weeks
-Try to avoid alcohol, spicy, oily foods that may make symptoms worse
-Try to eat frequent and smaller meals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

General & Family Physician Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what your husband had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, he needs to be evaluated for the development of any lung pathology like aspiration pneumonia or Klebsiella etc.

Other causes like carcinoid should also be ruled out. Baseline chest X-ray and complete blood counts should be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
