Does Formula Milk Help An Infant To Gain Weight?

Hi doctor, my baby is 1month old and she wants to bite d nipple after feeding. So I m confused weather she is still hungry or my milk is insufficient for her. Most of the people are suggesting me to give her lactogen. From d time of birth she hasn t increased weight. So will lactogen help her increase weight?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If a child is not gaining enough weight after birth, it is best to have her examined with your doctor first. This is because there are many possible causes of failure to gain weight in infants, and serious causes should be ruled out first, especially so early after birth.

If the examination is normal then the doctor may recommend you to add the formula milk to make up for possibly lacking amoung of calories in her diet.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
