Hello my boyfriend is 22 and he s been taking popers frequently and today was one of the scariest days of my life, he took a poper and then blacked out and drop led so hard on to floor and then started having a minor seizure what s the cause of that and how can I knock some sense in his head ?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Poppers are used to increase euphoria, increased sex drive &pleasure. This is attained by dialatation of peripheral blood vessels.
Because of habitual taking of the drug may result in severe headache, glaucoma or brings the about less oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, leading to dizziness, unconsciousness &more severe effect.
A seizure is accompanied by unconsciousness along with jerks to body. If your friend does not have jerks, he does not have seizures. If yes, he needs consultation of a neuro physician.
But if it is only unconsciousness simple oxygenation would help him out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
