Does Getting Hit On Eye With Ball Cause Glaucoma?

I got hit with a ball on my right eye. it was a ball hockey ball, so fairly hard. I went to the doctors and nothing was broken just blod clot and gave drops for the clot and swelling to go down. What scared me is he said I have a higher chance of glacoma... is that true? i dont want to go blind.

Well looks like you have blood in eye, hence doctor has mentioned chances of Glaucoma to you. There is constant amount of clear fluid flowing in front portion of our eye, its main purpose is to provide nutrition to cornea. When there is blood in this clear fluid it irritates and blocks draining meshwork. Irritation(inflammation) can cause permanent blockage, this causes fluid to accumulate and pent up pressures leading to glaucoma.

But untreated glaucoma lead to blindness. In your case doctor has cautioned you. With regular follow up , in case you develop will be managed early for better prognosis. And also it will be single eye problem as it is due to trauma.

Hence there are chances but good follow up and timely treatment will certainly prevent further damage.
