Does Gum Infection Cause Tooth To Break?

i HAD A FISHBONE STUCK IN MY GUM WHICH HAS MEANT THAT MY GUMS SWELLED UP AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO EAT WITH THAT SIDE OF MY MOUTH. Today I tried eating a small piece of bread and my tooth broke, could this be caused by the infection, if so can this spread to my other teeth?

Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
The swollen gums can be because of the gum infection in between two teeth secondary to decay in between two teeth. The broken piece of the tooth might be from a decayed tooth which has become weak. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get a radiograph done to confirm the diagnosis. Get the tooth treated with root canal treatment and cap done. For the gum infection get the teeth cleaned. If there is decay in between the teeth, it can spread to adjacent tooth.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.
