Does Having ADHD Increase The Chances Of Having Social Anxiety?

Hello , I have ADHD and ever since I was a child i have felt very uncomfortable around people, I have done some searching on the Internet and I came across an article on social anxiety.. I found I had a lot in common with the different things that it said . For example: it said most people who have social anxiety are constantly feeling judged and can never pick up the phone and are just scared of conversation. (I have to admit, I m very nervous while writing you this) It s not as bad because I m not face to face with you But my question is: could it be possible that I have a more increase chance of having social anxiety because of my ADHD ?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

It is true that social anxiety and ADHD can co-exist, because ADHD may lead to social dysfunction and isolation. From the other hand, drugs used to treat ADHD are stimulants, which can increase anxiety, in patients who use them.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
