Does Having C Section Mean Missed Chances Of Vaginal Childbirth In Future?
I had to have a c-section because I did not dilate past 8 centimeters after 3 hours......my doc even said there at the end that i actually was becoming swollen and went back down to 7. also said i had a small frame but i know smaller women than me who had vaginal births. i want to try a vbac next time. would not dilating past 8 this time be an indicator that i won t next time...or is every time different?
Once you've had a C-section, the walls of the uterus are somewhat weakened, so there is increased risk of a rupture if a vaginal delivery is done next. That is why women who have had C-sections are recommended to have them in future pregnancies. This does not mean you can't try for a vaginal birth next time, but you should be closely monitored and prepared to have a C-section on an emergency basis if necessary. You are taking some risk. The fact that you didn't dilate past 8 does not necessarily indicate it will happen again, but if your doctor felt pretty certain it was due to how your pelvic bones were creating a small birth opening, I would be concerned about that possibility. Hope this helps.
