Hi, I m trying to concieve. I have a uti and am taking nitrofluorodantin 100,mg bd. I am getting temperatures and controlling it with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Are there any risks with taking these medication and trying to concieve? Does having a temperature effect fertility? Thanks
Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic commonly prescribed for urinary tract infections. It is excreted quickly from the blood into the urine. So, it does not have much effect on the body. It gets concentrated in the kidney and excreted in urine which helps to act on the infective organisms. It is safe to use in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Take the drug with food or snack to avoid nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.
Paracetamol can be taken during pregnancy. It has no potential side effects to the child. Ibuprofen should be taken only when the benefits outweighs risks. Because it may cause miscarriage during the early pregnancy time. Better to avoid any medications during the first 3 months of pregnancy. There is no proven theory that high ambient temperature affecting the fertility in humans. But, take plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. None of the medicines above affect the fertility.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
