Does Having Tingling Sensation On Face Towards Head Suggestive Of Trigeminal Neuralgia?
i was told i could have Tigeminal neurlgia... I felt like my left side face was asleep tingly.... then it was painful to the touch..It got worse and pain went up to the top of my head...from cheek bone to top of eye... i felt like needles stabbing on eye.. my ear was hurting on outside down to jaw....went er they told me it was not a stroke....i still get pain on and off same area... sometimes worse sometimes less......I was in a auto accident that the saddle part of my inner ear broke and had white discharge.. i was scalped and had several hit to head through out the years .. i also was punched on left side before... I did have a mri once on my brain and they told me that i did have a swollen vein in my head....i am on anti depressant and take galipatin since 2001. i have had that tingly sensation since on and off but this is the first time i acctually had this much pain... Should i check and see if i acttually have Trigeminel neuralgia
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms and the history of head, ear and face injury the symptoms seems most probable with Trigeminal Neuralgia and the cause of pain can be traumatic injury to the the nerve leading to degeneration of the protective covering of the nerve known as Mylein sheath leading to firing of abnormal nerve impulses causing episodes of electric shock like or severe pain.. You should consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and an MRI scan can help in diagnosing and confirming the cause of pain.. In case of trigeminal neuralgia he/she can advise you to take anticonvulsant medication like Carbamazipine , Gabapantin or Baclofen etc that is capable of curing neurotic pain.. In case if the medicines does not work surgical management can be planned like Glycerol injections, balloon decompression and gamaknife radiosurgery..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
