Does Heavy Menstrual Bleeding In A Menopausal Lady Warrant Urgent Medical Attention?

Ihave polcythemia vera and mild myeleofibrosis and acquired von willebrands disease. My periods come and go since i m now 54 and approaching menopause. My period came on wed. this week and has been heavy with clots since thursday night. I take Jakafi for my blood disorder. I have saturated a tampon and pad combo every hour for the past 3 days. What should i do/ go to the ER or wait and see if it slows up?

I do suggest that you seek some sort of medical attention. Are you having symptoms of light headedness, weakness, shortness of breath, fatigue? If you are having any of these then you should seek medical attention sooner rather than later. You are probably becoming anemic, and also the cause of your bleeding should probably be further evaluated. If it is not after hours you can call your doctor's office to ask if they would see you or if you should go to the ED.
