Does Hepatic Cyst In The Liver Cause Lower Left Abdominal Pain?

I have had lower left abdominal pain since the friday before christmas. I went to my Urologist for a KUB thinking it was a kidney stone, He said that there was none present on the film, He sent me for a ct scan w/o contrast nothing present there. He sent me home. Pain got worse. On the 12/29 I went to the ER with more pain at his request for a CT with contrast. Still nothing. I was sent home with Flagyl and Ciprio for 7 days. No diverticulitus was present on either scan. My questions are: the pain is still present, I have no female organs full hysterectomy was done several years prior. I also had a bladder lift which my OBGYN had just said on the 27th looked great. There was a 12mm hepatic cyst in the liver. My concern is the Pain in the left side the and constant nagging ache with some occasional stabbing sharpness. I have told the doctor i do not want pain medicine. I still have the stuff he gave me. I really would like the problem fixed. I am a little concered about the liver problem. I don t see my GP until March, Or MY GI until the end of Feb can this wait? What could it be? Please advise.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, a hepatic cyst is purely a benign asymptomatic lesion. 12 mm hepatic cyst is impossible to cause pain or any other symptoms. Your CT Abdomen was normal twice. So your pain is mostly functional (not associated with any organ disease). And the most common cause of such functional pain is stress and anxiety.

So consult a psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions. Try to identify stressor in your life and start working on its solution. You may need anxiolytic drugs (propranolol and flunarizine combination) too.

Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
