Does Hilar Prominence Bilaterally Found In Chest X Ray Suggest Adenopathy At Hilum Bilaterally?

I had a chest X-Ray during a routine exam for a chest cold and a Hilar Prominence Bilaterally on the frontal view was diagnosed. I am not currently a smoker -- have not been for over 20 years. A CAT Scan was ordered to rule out adenopathy at the hilum bilaterally. Do you believe this is necessary?

Hi! thanks for writing to HCM;

To your query, I must answer 'yes!'

Hilar lymph nodes, when enlarged, are seen as prominent whitish shadows around hilar region and could well be due to tuberculosis, viral infection, bronchitis or even lymphoma..!

Therefore, CAT scan preferably with contrast is necessary for confirmation and to know the exact pathology a biopsy/FNAC is required!

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
