Does Hypothyroidism Cause Abdominal Bloating, Swollen Feet And Weight Gain?

I have recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, but haven't been to my Endo appointment yet. I wan to know if my stomach bloating, feet swelling, and weight gain are from the diagnosis I have been on Synthroid a couple months, but it makes my eyes feel very puffy as if I'm on pain killers......

Hi,

Weight gain, feet swelling, puffy eyes and bloating are common signs of Hypothyroidism. Synthrosis is a brand name of Levothyroxine or the thyroid hormone replacement therapy. If you take Synthroid regularly and you have symptoms of hypothyroidism(like puffy eyes in your case), than you may need to increase the dosage of your Synthroid. If you were my patient I will suggest doing the TSH test to clarifies if your "puffy eyes" are related to your thyroid condition and to understand if you need doses adjustment of Synthroid. My advice is to consult physically your treating doctor for the tests and the new doses of your thyroid medication accordingly to the test result.

Hi,

Yes, hypothyroidism may cause weight gain and the possibility of swelling of feet called myxedema. But bloating of the stomach may be due to decreased motility of bowel loops.

Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. Please check it out for thyroid status and renal function. Then get treated accordingly.
