I was on 30 mg of paroxetine for 2 years and just lately after a missed dose decided it was not gonna work any more..So GP upped my Paroxetine to 40 mg and its been 2 weeks and still have anxiety, dry mouth, some shaking..Is 2 weeks long enough for the upped dose to work? My GP also gave me a scrip for Buspar but I am scared to add it..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Buspar and paxil (paroxetine) both increase the levels of a chemical called serotonin.

Generally a combination of medication that both have the potential to increase this chemical is avoided because of the risk of serotonin syndrome.

This is a condition associated with agitation, confusion, tremor, increased heart rate, increased body temperature, nausea, headache, vomiting, diarrhea
You may want to consider speaking to your doctor about this possibilty.

In general it can take 2 to 3 weeks for the increased dose to have an effect.

I hope this helps
