Does Intake Of Bromelain Cause Muscle Cramps?

Could Bromelain 240 GDU daily be the cause of my muscle cramps? My legs cramp worse at night but my arms, hands, knees, ribs, shoulder etc. cramp on exertion. My doctor is mystified after looking at numerous blood tests with normal results. I had a parathyroid removed a year ago when I started experiencing these horrible cramps. However, the blood tests show my thyroid to be functioning properly. I drink loads of water but find potassium and calcium to exacerbate the cramps. I am on an iron supplement for slight anemia and my creatinine is slightly elevated and eGFR slightly low. Help!

Hi,

I don't think bromelain is the cause for your cramps. I think its the lack of parathyroid hormone which would be causing the cramps. I advise you to visit an endocrinologist and get your parathyroid hormone regulated.

Also, you need to get your kidney function checked and arrive at the cause of high creatinine and low GFR. Decreased kidney function may also be the cause of cramps. You would need medication and some dietary modifications like low protein intake etc. to get control of your raised creatinine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
