Does Intake Of I Pill Cause Irregular Periods?

I had my periods on 20th April which lasted till 25th April. I had sex on 28th April and took an i-pill on the same day some 7-8 hours after sex. Though we had used condom but just to be sure. Then, bleeding started on 9th May, which was thick, brownish blood and very light flow. It sort of ended by 12th may but from yesterday it started a little bit again. Can you pls let me know if this is expected as effects of i pill or should I consult a gyny? Or should I wait for my periods and then consult doc ?

Hi,

Taking ipill just after your periods, will cause hormonal imbalance and cause menstrual problems. Just wait for your period to come naturally. There should be a natural cycle eventually. Meanwhile do not take another iPill. Ideally, iPill should be taken only during the fertile phase of the cycle usually day 11-17. For now, just wait. See your doctor if you miss another month. Please use a condom in the meantime. Don't use any hormonal contraception until you get your menses.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
