Does Intake Of Misoprostol For Fibroids Cause Brown Vaginal Discharge?

Yes, I would appreciate your answer. I have fibroid and was placed on Misoprostol. I was taking two everyday but was having some GI issues so I reduced the dosage. Once in a while I have dark brown virginal discharge. Sometimes it is quite a bit. I haven t take the Misoprostol in two day. Is this kind of brownish bleeding normal with this medication?

Common side effects of misoprostol are diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, rashes, dizziness, headache, increased uterine contractility, abnormal vaginal bleeding and rarely hypotension. So abnormal vaginal discharge/bleeding can occur with misoprostol. This is temporary and will resolve after stoppage of misoprostol. It is used in fibroid to reduce blood loss. It will not help in regressing fibroid. Medicines are available for shrinking the fibroid. But cure is possible by surgery.
Advice
1.     Discuss with your gynecologist for treatment of fibroid by medicine versus surgery. Treatment depends upon size of fibroid and symptoms. Smaller asymptomatic fibroid often regress spontaneously
2.     Ferrous sulfate tablet – one tablet daily for 2 months
3.     Folic acid 5 mg daily per oral for 2 months
4.     Investigation – USG abdomen & pelvis, Hb%
