Does Intake Of Olanzapine Cause Extreme Muscle Weakness?

Will olanzapine 2.5mg 2x daily cause extreme muscle weekness? My Mom soon to be 93 has been on this medicine just a little longer than a month and I am thinking it has caused her to be very week (transfers from bed to potty, transfers from wheelchair to bed, etc. ) very difficult. Any thoughts?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if intake of Olanzapine cause extreme muscle weakness. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to certain reasons like neurological disorders , Guillain-Barre syndrome , pinched nerve or insufficient blood supply . But in your case the symptoms are probably due to Olanzapine as its side effects . I would suggest you to consult doctor who prescribed this medicine and discuss the condition with him/her . Doctor may alter the dose or may prescribe substitute ,. Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for muscle problem ,who may prescribe muscle relaxant along with vitamin and mineral supplement . For now eat healthy and drink plenty of water .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
