Does Intake Of Postinor 2 Cause Delayed Periods?

I had sex with my sex on sunday may 15,2016.But I was expecting my period will come by 17.After sex I took postinor 2 coz he dont withdraw.So,now im delayed 3 days.Im so worried that maybe I will get pregnant.It is normal and how many days my period will come again.plz help me.Thank u.

Hi,

Yes, it can delay the periods. Positnor-2 is up to 94% effective in preventing pregnancy if taken within 72 hours following an unprotected sex it is more effective the sooner after the sex it is taken. Please remember that Positnor-2 contains high dose of hormone progesterone and this leads to hormone imbalance. This can cause withdrawal bleeding and also delay the next natural period by a week or two.

To be sure get a home pregnancy test done on an early morning urine sample to rule out pregnancy. If this test is negative then other following causes of delayed period should be ruled out by relevant lab tests by your doctor like Positnor-2 induced hormonal imbalance, emotional stress, illness, hormonal disorders such as thyroid disease, change of job, heavy exercise, and certain diseases of the ovary.
