Does Intake Of Xanax And Prozac Have An Effect On One’s BP?

my 35 year old nephew has just left his doctor and had a bp of 190/90. the dr prescribed wt loss(190) and xantax(sp) and prozac and a recheck in a couple of weeks. what should his bp be? And do you think it is a good idea to start these meds so soon before wt loss and bp meds? Thank you so very much.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. As per your history, please find my advice below:

1) These two drugs are for anxiety and depression so no need at all even if the patient has mental disorder with high BP.

2) So first do treatment for BP then after the case is stabilised, we should think about psychiatric problems.

3) So reduced weight, reduced salt in diet and add two BP medications at a time and take regularly.

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
