Does Intake Of Iron Supplements Cause Abdominal Bloating And Swelling In The Thigh?

my father s left thigh is swollen. Has CHF, veinous insuffency, and has had celluities ( about 1.5 months ago) in leg but it has cleared up now. has had poor circulation in legs, feet also. Legs and feet are not swollen now, just upper thigh, expecially aournd inside and back near knee. What could be causing this? His abdomen is also swollen, bloated but doesn t hurt, just uncomfortable. Has amenia and been taking iron suppliments about 2 months. Can the iron suppliments cause stomach bloating?

Hello,

Most probably stomach bloating could be related to iron supplements. However, as he is currently taking meds for CHF, among them blood thinners, I think should rule out gastritis or ulcer induced by these drugs.

So better run upper endoscopy and abdominal ultrasound to determine the right diagnosis.

Furthermore, swelling in thigh could be related to venous insufficiency. A Doppler ultrasound will rule that out.

Plus, should evaluate his CHF status and complete blood circulation.

Depending on the results can determine the right diagnosis.
