Does Intake Of Potassium Need To Be Avoided While On Candesartan?

I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A SCRIPT FOR CANDESARTAN/HYDROCHLOROTHIAZID TABS 16 MG/12.5 MG - THE INSTRUCTIONS TELL ME do not take Potassium while being treated with this medicine . Does this mean I have to discontinue eating all those good potassium foods that I do eat a lot of?

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HC magic.
Of course I would not recommend you to stop food with potassium.
It is true the medication you are getting effects potassium levels.
It has 2 medications, one that increases it (candesartan) and one that reduces it (Hidrochlorthiazide) so in total is should not effect your potassium levels.
I would recommend you just to check your potassium levels now and if they are OK continue eat normal diet that you like.
Recheck potassium levels in 3 months and if still potassium is OK continue life as always and just do routine check for high blood pressure every 1-2 years which also includes in your case potassium level check also.
So I would recommend you to not stop potassium rich foods but just check potassium levels now and in 3 months and routine health check for hypertension.

Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.

Best regards,
