Does Large Blood Clot Discharge From Vagina Indicate Miscarriage?
i have a multiload iud fitted following a termination in december 2007, i`ve had some heavy periods while using it over the years but today i have had a particularly nasty time, when i used the toilet earlier and removed a tampon it was followed by a large blood clot, maybe 2inch wide and very thick, is it possible that i could have miscarried? I am a 29 year old woman who has had 3 children. 5ft 3 tall approx 11 stone.

If you have Multiload inserted in your uterus, the chances of pregnancy and hence the abortion are very rare. Multiload is a good device for birth control.
Whenever a clot is passed due to abortion, it contains some white tissue in the blood clots. From your history it appears that you had only large blood clot without white tissue.
Multiload can cause excessive bleeding from the uterus. If such bleeding remains in the uterus for longer time, it will from a clot and come out subsequently. 1 gm of clot is formed of 3 ml of blood. So, from the clot you can assess the amount of blood you have lost.
Please do not ignore this event. Report to the Gynaecologist. If Multiload is causing you problem, you may have to get it removed and opt for some other mode of contraception.
