Does Ligament Damage In Wrist Cause Pain During Movement?

If you had ligament damage in the wrist ... would you be able to move it freely without pain, do pushups with out pain, etc? The only thing that causes it pain is when swinging a baseball bat.... could this be more tendonitis or a growth plate problem in a 14yo?
