Does Liver Cirrhosis Cause Rectal Bleeding?

I am asking a question regarding my husband. He has been a heavy drinker for 30 years, he is 48. For one thing he has been having rectal bleeding for years. Last year he lost a litre of blood and needed a transfusion. We went to the hospital as he was bleeding for 3 weeks a huge amount he didn't tell me until it was for many days. I talked him into going to the hospital. He told them his symptoms, they ordered bloodwork in the emergency dept. Just after they drew blood he fainted and his heartrate dropped down to 28 they gave him something to bring up his heart rate. He spent 3 days in the cardiac unit. He had his hemorrhoids banded then and again 2 months later. And now it looks like he needs to have them done again, as he is bleeding a large amount. He has a pattern with his bleeding he bleeds for about 2 weeks or longer then stops for 2 weeks. It always stops and starts back up? I worry he has cirrhosis of the liver, he is jaundice around his eyes, he is terribly irritable. And always has a hard time concentrating and snaps. What I am wondering is if this bleeding has anything to do with cirrhosis of the liver? Is it possible he could have this and that is why he has this bleeding? I have talked to him about his drinking and its no use, he refuses to listen. Could you give me an opinion on this. Thank you.

Hello
With extensive liver cirrhosis there can be very enlarged hemorrhoid vessels that can bleed extensively and have to be surgically removed, not just banded

Since he's jaundiced with the bleeding, my thought is he does indeed have major liver problems
