Does Long Term Usage Of Coumadin Cause Memory Loss?
My mother has been on Coumadin for 1 yr & 4 MONTHS & has short time memory loss & repeats herself but still does some everyday things normally.Perfectly on top of things before that.I think she needs to have her Dr. try something different. We have longevity in our family with none of these symptoms. I was on Coumadin for about 6 months for 2 total hip replacements & had some confusion. My mom has always been really sensitive to everything. What do you think?
There is no evidence to show that coumadin causes memory loss. There are no published studies indicating coumadin causing memory loss. So please see the following other causes of memory loss in the elderly like: 1) Dementia 2) Confusion 3) Alzheimer's disease 4) Mild cognitive impairment 5) Emotional disorders like stress, anxiety and depression 6) Hypothyroidism 7) Sleep apnea 8) Alcoholism
Please check if any of the above causes may be related to your mother. Please do consult a physician for further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
