Does Longer Use Of Nitrofurantoin For UTI Cause Ovarian Cyst?


My wife got repeated urinary tract infection since last 3 yrs and has used nitrofurantan (martifur) for long periods of 6 months with a gap of one month in between . of late she has been detected ovarian cyst (RT)
Question: can long use of nitrofuranton (martifur) tablet for treatment of urinary tract infection cause ovarian cyst as side effect?

Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
The nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic. It does not cause ovarian cysts.
ovarian cyst is pretty common in young women. Please write back with details of ultrasound so that further treatment can be decided.
