Does Merina Iud Cause Back Pain And Cramps During Sex?

I have had the merina iud for over a year and all of a sudden I've been getting sharp cramps in my lower stomach during sex. And extreme bleeding. It stops within an hour after but I think it might be part of the reason I've been having horrible back pains. Any idea why this might be happening?!

Hello,

Mirena as with any other IUD can cause back pain and painful intercourse. Generally, it will settle by it own in couple of days. You can take analgesics like Ibuprofen Mefenemic acid for pain relief. If pain persists, you can consult a gynecologist and check whether the IUD is in position or not. If misplaced, it has to be removed and reinserted.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
