Does Milk Consumption Cause Rashes All Over The Body?

My mother is 95. She has developed lactose intolerance in the past few years. She takes one medication for high blood pressure that makes her constipated. So she drinks about 1 cup of milk daily to ease the constipation. Now she has a rash over her entire body, which is being treated with prescription creams. She is otherwise in excellent health, is bright and active. Is it possible that the milk is causing the rash? PS she has had the rash for more than 2 years.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history your mother is having urticaria, my treatment advice is -

1. Milk and milk products can cause urticaria.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days.

If problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
