Does Moving Broken Finger Makes It Worse?

hi i boke my finger two days ago in two places one break was near my joint and have to go back next week to get an x-ray to make sure i dont make the beak worse. i get shooting pain down my finger every now and again but other times i get no pain at all and is able to move my finger without any pain. should i carry on moving my finger or will it make the break worse without me realising?
