Does Pain In Muscle Indicate Muscle Pull?

Okay so I am Russian and people always say that when your muscle sometimes gets pain it can either mean you pulled a muscle or turn wrong. But there this then that they say that i cant translate will i can but it just doesnt make sense, it translates like this got a cold but from my knowledge your muscle cant really get a cold , can it? People are telling me that its only the old sayings but look if you sleep on the floor where there is a cold breeze and then you wake up with your back hurting you muscle can get hurt correct?
or if you drive with your hand out the window and the next day your hand start hurting you can get your muscle hurt correct?
