Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Pain In Upper Middle Quadrant, Nausea ,constipation And Diarrhea Mean Gallbladder Problem?
I have a question about lap chole. I had a baby 8 months ago and been having gallbladder symptoms in middle to end of pg to now. US of gallbladder good, EF=27%. Can't get into Dr. until Oct. 5th for consult but I work with Dr at times and know he will want to take it out. Is this a low enough EF to go though surgery? Symptoms are: Pain in upper middle quadrant of abd (sometimes mild sometimes severe), nausea, occasional vomiting, constipation/diarrhea, left sided chest pain (EKG normal), and fullness after eating.
Hello, I can understand your concern for your symptoms. But having only low EF for gall bladder is not an indication for surgery. Low EF is associated with stagnant out-flow of bile from gall bladder to intestine via bile duct and this stagnant flow is responsible for development of gall stones. EF can be low in fasting stage also without any abnormality. Thus presence of sludge or stone in gall bladder warrant the cholecystectomy.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any further question then I would be happy to help you. Have a nice day!
