Does Persistent Diarrhea Indicate Stomach Flu?

Hi. I had a stomach bug for three days. I was throwing up and had diarrhea. I was staying on the BRAT diet on the second day (1st day I couldn t eat anything). I ate toast, banana, crackers and mostly soup broth. Today I had some more solid bland food and seemed to do pretty well so I had chicken kabobs marinated in Italian dressing with some peppers, onions and brown rice. My stomach immediately seemed agitated and very bloated/gasy after. After few hours of feeling this way, I ended up having diarrhea again. Do I still have the stomach bug, am I still contagious? Or is my stomach just not ready for rich foods yet?

Hello,

You should know that it may take up to a week for the gut and stomach to gain their normal function. I would recommend taking a probiotic to help improve your situation. I don't think that you are contagious, but you may need a week to recover completely.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
