Does Potassium Imbalance Lead To Swollen Feet And Ankles?

can too much potassium cause the feet, ankles and lower legs to swell. I am taking two losartan 50mg a day and one potassium chloride 10 meq a day, along with other blood pressure meds. My feet, ankles and lower legs have been swollen for four months and I think it s because of the prescribed medications mentioned.

Hello,

Potassium may reduce water retention by increasing the production of urine and decreasing the amount of sodium in your body. So high potassium may help in reducing water retention.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
