Does Reduced Paroxitine Dosage Cause Mood Swings, Quiet Behavior And Less Motivation?

Hi, I am currently on 10mg of Paroxitine daily. I have been on this for 2 years and have functioned very well with no real side effects. Recently, I tried to go down to 5mg as I thought it was time to try and ween myself off if possible. After 3 weeks my family has noticed a mood shift - quieter, less motivation, grumpy, etc etc, though I havent told anyone of my experiment . I guess i m asking, how long is too long on 10mg, or is it safe to continue and try to ween myself off in a year or so?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the Peroxetine is an anti depressant of SSRI ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor ) group with excellent resutls.

* The time period of consumption varies from the case to case and the clinician is best judge to decide the desired therapy in particular case.

* However, the mood swings, quiet behavior and lack of motivation are absolutely in concern with the self lowering of the dose of Paroxetine.

* Kindly revert back to your previous dose, which will make the condition much better within couple of days.

* So far as future weaning is concerned, rightly focus on handling current episode, later comes the future stoppage or tapering of the drug, what ever advised by youd treating physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
